Daily Doses

Well, every morning I have to take 2 thyroid pills…. long story…. had to have my thyroid zapped 12 years ago and they over-zapped…. so I take replacement meds.  Not a big deal really, but when we started not having insurance I decided that it could become one of the budget adjustments.  At $42 a month…. it adds up quickly.  There were times that I would go weeks without it.  Well the way it works is that it builds up a level in the blood and once established…. continues….it takes 6 weeks to establish this continuous level, but it can be thrown off just by missing a few doses.  When I said to my mom, “I can’t afford it” her reply was….”You can’t afford NOT to take it”.    The truth is that she is right…. the monetary cost is nothing compared to the benefit of the medication.   And without it my body is tired and worn out…. so it is basically a question of cost.

I know that if you have received medication from your doctor you have seen the Rx symbol or heard the slang term Scrip.  This morning as I took my Rx…. I thought of another Scrip.(ture) that works quite the same way.  Many times we reach for a dusty Bible (me included) and expect immediate results because….well…. it is supposed to be a boost…it is supposed to hold the answers to every question we have…. but the Bible is meant to be taken in daily doses… it builds up in us and gives us the strength we are looking for…. this morning I am saying that if we are reaching for answers…intermittently….. reading the Bible here and there and wondering why it falls flat…. maybe we haven’t been taking it right…. maybe there are times when it seems like it might cost too much…but we can’t afford not to establish our daily Scrip.(ture) intake.

So let’s take a Scrip. (ture) challenge.  Let’s dedicate 1 week to taking our daily doses…pick a time… 5 minutes…. and take our Scrip.(ture) and see how we feel.  I like the mornings because it is quiet and God seems louder in the morning…. that is just me…. but whatever time you choose…. take your dose the same time every day…. the best part is that we have a guaranteed result here with no side effects!  :-)
